“Team Momentive” Volunteers From Momentive Performance Materials To Make Additional Improvements At Camp Cheerful

09/18/13

STRONGSVILLE, Ohio – (September 18, 2013) – More than 60 volunteers from Momentive Performance Materials Inc.’s (“Momentive Performance Materials” or the “Company”) quartz and ceramics business will go to camp rather than work on Sept. 18 - they will spend the day making improvements to Camp Cheerful, a camp for children with special needs.

After months of planning and organization, Momentive Performance Material’s “Team Momentive” volunteers will tackle an ambitious list of projects during the activity. These include:

  • building wood decking over existing wood floors to improve wheelchair access in two pavilions;
  • constructing a large wooden rocking horse to provide children with muscular dystrophy a station for leg stretching before therapeutic horseback rides on the camp’s sensory trail;
  • improving plumbing and drainage for the camp’s horse washing station;
  • repainting the interiors of two buildings;
  • improving the camp entryway landscaping.

This will mark the eighth consecutive year that Momentive Performance Materials associates have made improvements at Camp Cheerful, which provides children who have a broad range of physical, emotional, neurological and developmental disabilities with a robust camp experience. Team Momentive activities like these are part of the company’s overall sustainability strategy to provide support to the communities in which the company operates.

“This is a great opportunity for us to give back to the community and it also is a great team-building activity for our people,” said Chuck Froehlich, plant manager for Momentive’s Strongsville facility. Associates from Momentive facilities in Strongsville, Willoughby and Richmond Heights participate in the program.

In previous years, the Momentive team built a bridge and sensory stations for the therapeutic horseback riding program, sandblasted and repainted the pool, built an activities cabin, constructed and painted picnic tables, and made other site improvements.

“We do quite a bit of project pre-planning and utilize the talents of our engineers, plant tradesmen, and other associates. It is a real team approach to solving problems and making improvements to the Camp in support of their programs,” Froehlich said.
